Kola is only 34-years-old, but she has already endured hardships greater than many of us will ever know. Kola was born in an impoverished area of Andhra Pradesh province. Like most of the women from her area, Kola married young. Her first child, a daughter, was born when she was just 21 years old, and her second daughter was born just two years later. Kola cared her daughters while her husband earned a modest living. Tragedy struck this year in January. Kola’s husband collapsed and died of a heart attack, leaving Kola alone to raise her two girls. With no income, the family’s situation is dire. The family currently lives in a dilapidated primitive hut which is shown in the photograph. Kola’s health is fragile and the girls’ future is in jeopardy. The support of a sponsor would allow Kola to ensure the health and safety of her girls, who are still reeling from the loss of their father.
