Philomena is a young widow, who lost her husband, Shaji, a hardworking mason, to a massive heart attack. After his death in December 2018 this poor family is striving to make both ends meet. Philomena is not yet able to accept the death of her loving husband and in appearance she resembles a school age child. She struggles to accept the reality that she is responsible to look after her children and mother. The only means of earnings for this poor family is her irregular income from odd jobs which depend on the availability of fish.
The three children, two sons and a daughter, are progressing with their school studies. Their wings of hope have been cut off in their tender age. The only daughter is studying in the 7th grade, the elder son is in the 5th grade and the younger son is in the 1st grade. Their life has only just begun and this poor widow struggles to find means for their education, food and for their survival.
Philomena’s mother, Claudina, is staying with them. She is sickly and needs strict medication. She does the work of fish vending whenever there is fish. She has to carry a vessel on her head and move from one house to the other and it is the reason for her neck pain. Moreover she is very depressed to see the struggles of her young daughter.
The pathetic condition of their dwelling increases the intensity of their living. They are staying in a two room small house built with their own effort. Their house is like an island surrounded with water. Two concrete posts are laid as the way to reach to their house and during the Monsoon season they are staying in the house in the fear of attack by poisonous reptiles.
Philomena has no one to support her as her relatives are also surviving with their daily earnings. She is losing all hope in life and looking for a generous hearted person to help them out of their deep pool of misery and starvation.
