Andhra Region

Shanti Raitha is from a very poor family in a remote village named Badasindhiba in the hill tract of Gangapathi District, in the State of Odisha. This area is under developed with no proper conveniences to live a dignified human life. She and her husband, Luke, are blessed with 4 children, 3 boys and 1 girl. Unfortunately the area where they live is prone to malaria so they are all often sick.

Shikethro, the eldest son aged 8, is studying in 2nd standard in nearby Government School. He had cataracts in both eyes but the Canossian sisters felt compassion on the family and were able to succeed in having surgery done on his both eyes so he now has better sight. Their daughter, Pregatha aged four, goes to the Nearby Government Aganwadi for schooling.

Pregatha with her youngest brother

The family all live in a dilapidated hut which consists of one room. Cooking is done outside the house. Primary needs are met in the forest. Adjacent to their dwelling place are small running streams where they do their washing of clothes, dishes and bathing etc. The walls of the hut is made of mud and covered with broken sheets..

Shanti and Luke go to the mountain daily to work a little land that they have for cultivation. They collect the products such as firewood, fruits, and edible items of the forest. Everything they have to provide for themselves and their children comes from the forest. They are finding it very difficult to sustain their children despite all their efforts.

Their pathetic life situation makes them aloof from the village.    Poverty and misery are their constant companions. If any assistance is provided by a sponsor,  they could rear goats to earn better income and enjoy the privileges offered by FFA to reach the goal of self-reliance. This rare offer will turn in to a blessing to this family to meet the urgent needs and attend the basic needs of their health. They could recoup their health and live a life with human dignity. Shanti will be ever grateful if any one willingly comes forward to give a helping hand. Any help given to them will be greatly appreciated. Kindly come forward to liberate them from their poverty and loneliness. May God bless the kind benefactor
