Kumari is a devoted wife and mother in need of the help of a sponsor since her husband’s serious accident. (Read more about her plight below.
With the help of a sponsor and the FFA resource program in Andhra Pradesh, Kumari could open a small store by her home which would allow her to support her injured husband, disabled daughter, and son until the son finishes school in two years. To look into the face of Kumari Annamdevara is to look into the face of compassion during adversity. Kumari is a loving wife and mother of two who lives in Andhra Pradesh. She and her husband Apparao were overjoyed when their first child was born – a daughter they named Chittiramya. As she grew older, however, it became evident that Chittiramya had significant developmental disabilities. Her mental health issues mean she remains fully dependent on her family, even as she approaches adulthood. Kumari has diligently cared for her while Apparao went to work, and their young son, Premkishore, attended school.
Sadly, this family’s story took a tragic turn last year when Apparao was in a serious accident on his motorbike while riding home from work. He received a major head injury and was paralyzed on his left side. The family did not know if he would survive. After many weeks in the hospital, Apparao made a partial recovery and was released from the hospital. But this hard-working husband is now a severely disabled man. He lives at home, bedridden, and in complete reliance on Kumari’s care. He may continue to improve, but he has a long road in front of him and is no longer able to work. With two family members dependent on her for their most basic needs, Kumari also cannot leave the house to earn an income.
This family has no income for food or medicine. They live in a rented home with public water available nearby. All of their hope is placed in their son, who will graduate from school in two years. Until then, this family is in desperate need of support.
Kumari is an excellent cook and a hard worker who could run a food shop from her home. If Kumari is sponsored by someone, she will receive special funding from the FFA to help with the start-up costs of a food shop. This would allow the family to earn an income while allowing Kumari to remain with her husband and daughter throughout the day.
