Kanaka is a mother who was severely injured while trying to earn some money to support her family.
Her husband had lost his right hand in an accident and she was gallantly working to support him and their daughter when her body was burned in a chemical accident.
With the support of a sponsor, Kanaka could be part of the FFA’s Resource program and begin selling rice from their home and begin reconstructing their life. (To learn more about the Andhra Family Sponsorship program, click here.)

Kanaka Mahalaxmi and her husband, Srinu, seek our compassionate heart and urgent helping hand in these crucial moments of their life. They live with their two daughters, Saniya and Thanuja. Saniya, aged 16, completed her 10th Grade studies this year and is waiting for her test results. Their younger daughter, Thanuja aged 13, is studying in 8th grade in a government school where she gets free education and accomadation. Both children are good in their studies and ambitious to reach somewhere in society. The family live in a concrete house built with the assistance of a government subsidy consisting of two rooms, kitchen, a small sit out and toilet. House is electrified according to the village system and public water is available adjacent to their house.
The family’s troubles began when KanakaS’s husband, Srinu lost his right hand in an accident while cutting wood at a nearby cutting center. Since then, he has been unable to do any work so Kanaka assumed responsibility for supporting the family. She began working many long hours and one day she suffered from a horrible accident. A solution of tinder, used to mix paint, fell on her and the entire front of her body was burned. Her wounds need to tended to daily with an expensive medicine for the next two months. Kanaka was forced to borrow money from the local money lenders to pay for her medical expenses.
At present the life situation of this family is heart breaking as they have no resources to draw upon. If anyone stretches their hand to give a helping hand to sponsor this family they could receive funds through the FFA Resource Program to begin to sell rice in their community. This would enable them to earn their livelihood and have funds for the medical and educational needs of the family. In this way they could see the possibilities of reaching self-reliance again in the future. They could recoup their health and live a life with human dignity. Kanaka will be ever grateful if any one willingly comes forward to give a helping hand. Any help given to them will be greatly appreciated.
