Rita is a young widow striving to support her two young children and elderly father-in-law. (You can read more of her story below)
With the support of an FFA sponsorship, Rita could begin to raise goats on the family’s small plot of land and have a reliable source of income to care for her family. (To learn more about how the sponsorship program in Andhra Pradesh works, click here.)

Rita Raitha is a widow from a very poor family in a remote undeveloped village named Dundrum in the State of Odisha. Her husband become very ill and with a lack of medical care, he passed away two years ago. After his death, Rita assumed total care of her father-in-law with whom the family lived as well as her two daughters. Her eldest daughter, Rupanjali, aged seven, is studying in 2nd standard. Her second child is Ancy, aged three, is not yet enrolled in any Aganwadi (Kindergarten).
Rita does some coolly work whenever she is called from the villagers. The family has a little land on the mountains. Their house consists of two rooms. Cooking is done outside the house. The roof needs to be renewed every year which is very expensive. In the monsoon season, it is just covered with a plastic sheet to prevent leaks. They have no toilet facilities and must go in the forest. Adjacent to their dwelling place small running streams are found where they do their washing of clothes, dishes and bathing etc. They collect the products such as firewood, fruits, and edible items of the forest to meet their daily needs to sustenance. Poverty and misery are their constant companions.
With the help of a sponsor and the FFA resource assistance program, the family could rear goats and earn a better income. This would be a blessing to this family. They could recoup their health and live a life with human dignity. Rita will be ever grateful if any one willingly comes forward to give a helping hand.
