Sumothi is an elderly woman with an extended family including many children. As you can read in her story below, tragedy has struck her two eldest sons and she is in need of support for the other children to have hope for a brighter future.
Sumothi wants to find a means to support her children. If she receives sponsorship from the FFA, she could begin to raise goats and cows with the venture capital. It would give great hope to the family. (To learn more about how the sponsorship program in Andhra Pradesh works, click here.)

This is one of the largest families we have ever featured. They live in a village called Badsndhaba in the mountains of Odisha. Sumothi is the eldest woman in the family – more than fifty years ago she married her husband Foushina. As is the custom in this area Sumothi was not his only wife, and so Foushina is sometimes at home with this family and sometimes away with his other family or with his elderly mother. The couple’s oldest child Sumicinthe is currently suffering from acute tuberculosis and is unable to work. Their second oldest child, Luciyan, was an accomplished student who earned entry into a government college where he is pursuing a degree. Unfortunately he too is suffering from health issues after contracting HIV from an ill advised tattoo. The remaining children, ages 6 to 18, all work in the fields. Without assistance there is no hope for these children to attend school or learn a trade that may better their situation.
