The Rayudu family is one that will stay in your heart. This father and son are both HIV positive, and have been living with relatives since the death of their wife and mother six years ago. The son, Nandu, suffers from significant physical handicaps and chronic complications of HIV. Despite this he is a persistent and loving child, and with these qualities has won the hearts of our FFA staff in Andhra Pradesh. When he was a little boy Nandu was told to stay home from school because he was too ill to participate. He still strove to learn to write, and when visiting with the FFA staff he was asked to write his signature. This clever child told the staff he could – for a fee! The staff was so impressed that they continued to work with him and his father to ensure they receive food and medicine. He gained enough confidence to want to return to school, and argued on his own behalf that he should be allowed to attend. The school agreed, and Nandu is now in the 7th grade. He participates in the FFA program for children with FFA, but his biggest challenge remains his health. His father works hard to earn a living weaving inexpensive carpets, but his income is not enough to guarantee the family nutritious food and the medical support they need. This loving duo need your help.
