Thomas is the father of this family and goes for fishing or other jobs as available. He works hard but does not bring in enough income to meet the family’s needs. His wife, Margaret, has vision problems which make it difficult for her to work.
Their hope is their daughters who both do well in school. Anisha, 18, is attending college but it is almost impossible for the family to cover her $115 tuition as well as books, etc. If the girls drop out of school, the family loses all hope for their future.
It is amazing that the girls have done as well as they have as their living conditions are dire. They live in an incomplete two roomed house built with their own effort. There is no toilet and is an insecure place for two teen girls. The property was bought at a low cost as it is a marshy area and it was with Thomas’s hard work that he leveled the land by dumping waste and old crushed materials from construction sites. Since some of the property is as water logged, so there are mosquitoes, crocodiles and other creatures. Thus they are living in a very uncleanly surrounding which causes sicknesses for the family members.
