The Antony Family

Here we have three widows with limited income in destitute shape. Thresiamma and Jessy are attempting to care for Thresiamma’s 10 year old little girl, Niya, and Thresiamma’s mother-in-law, Jancy, through meager jobs. Often Niya goes to school hungry and soon she may no longer be able to attend school at all. You can read their full story below.

Your sponsorship would help put food on the table, brighten their lives, and give hope through continuing Niya’s education.

When the FFA staff in Alleppey wrote about this household their description started, “This family consists of three widowed women and a little girl.” What else can one say? This is a unique family, even from the hundreds that the FFA has worked with.

The original applicant is Thresiamma, a domestic servant and mother to 10-year-old Niya. Thresiamma’s husband died after a long battle with cancer. Thresiamma and her daughter moved in with her beloved mother-in-law, Jancy, who is herself widowed and suffering from a heart condition. Now, add to the household a third tragic case; Jessy, Thresiamma’s sister-in-law. Jessy’s husband died after a massive heart attack and her son was killed in a fire. With no family left she moved in with the other two women.

Together Thresiamma and Jessy are supporting Niya and caring for Jancy, but they have limited income and their living conditions are bleak. They live in a small hut within a market slum and most days there is not enough money to buy food for the whole family. The staff write, “Now the only aim in these poor widow’s life is a good future for little Niya. But it is heartbreaking for them to witness their little daughter going to school many days with empty stomach and satisfying her hunger from the noon meal from school for poor children. If this situation continues Niya will not be able to continue with her studies.” A sponsor for this family would give Niya the chance to continue her education and allow these women, who have endured so much already, to live a life with some security.
