The Chapala’s are a family in exceptionally heart-breaking circumstances. Jaggayyamma (wife, 65 years) and Srirama (husband, 75 years) are an older couple who have worked hard their whole lives to raise a family in a happy, stable home. Their own children, two daughters and a son, are grown. While their daughters have been happy and successful, their son has not. He married twice and struggled with alcoholism. Throughout all of his problems his parents tried to support him morally and financially. They spent much of their own savings trying to solve their son’s legal problems. Despite their efforts he eventually abandoned his family, leaving his wife to raise their young children. The strain was too much for her and she was found dead shortly after the birth of their third child. These poor children were left without any parents and so the Chapala’s have bravely taken on the task of raising their grandchildren.  The family currently lives in a dilapidated house. Both Jaggayyamma and Srirama are hard-workers, and each still works outside of the home whenever they are able. They live in a dilapidated home in need of constant repair, and worry about their ability to continue supporting the children, the youngest of whom is just a baby. They would be grateful for the opportunity to develop their own shop where they could make a reliable income for years to come.
