Germina and Celestin are a poor couple settled in a remote village of Jubo in the State of Odisha. Majhi is their family and Tribal group name. They are blessed with 4 children who are girls. The parents of Celestin are living with them and are aged and sickly. One of Celestin’s sisters, who has to be settled in marriage, also is with them.
Celestin’s mother is a mental patient and at times she is violent and roams about in the village. Celestin has taken up the responsibility of this family as his father is not having good health and his mother requires special care and attention. Numerous are their want still they desire to give a bright future to their children. They are financially very poor and not able to achieve their goal as they desire.
They enjoy a happy and peaceable family life of peace and love. Eldest daughter Arpitha, aged 10, is studying in 5th grade. She takes up the responsibility of her younger ones. Shivan, aged 7, is studying in 3rd grade and Ankitha, aged four, goes to kindergarten. Germina and Celestin have a baby, only four months old. Their house consists of two rooms and a small sit out. Their house is electrified according to the village system. Public water facility of a pump well is provided in the village. For washing clothes, dishes and bath etc they use the flow of mountain water which passes adjacent of their village.
Celestin and Germina cultivate a field that they own but still they live a life of poverty. They try to collect the products of edible items and firewood for their sustenance in the forest nearby. They also go for odd jobs with neighbors to earn some meager income. They have a bit of land on the mountains where they cultivate pulses and paddy.
