Mangadevi Chilli’s bright eyes greet you as she stands outside her dilapidated two-room home. She is 31, a mother of two, and a widow. Her story is one of happiness turning to sadness and hope for the future growing dim.

Mangadevi’s husband passed away four years ago. Before that, she had a simple but happy life. She and her husband lived in a small village. Her husband was caring and hard-working, and the couple doted on their two young children. They looked forward to sending their children to school and dreamed about the bright future ahead.

But then Mangadevi’s husband became sick. First, the couple did not seek medical treatment due to the cost, and then his illness became too severe for medication. When he died, the children were just 7 and 4. Mangadevi was left as the sole provider for the household.

With no resources or special skills, finding work has been difficult, and her income is unreliable. The family struggles to survive. The children still miss their father, and now they worry about their mother. They attend the local school but are falling behind on their studies. Mangadevi worries about their food, and their home, and their educations. How will she raise these two children, and how will they have a better life? With support from a sponsor, Mangadevi is ready to make a fresh start for her family. Can you help?
