Sauri is a poor man with a wife and four daughters. He was a hard working fisherman and settled his three daughters in marriage with great effort. The family still has a huge debt in connection with their settlement. Now he is very weak and suffering from a kidney stone and in great pain. He cannot go for any work. His wife Kunjamma had a severe stroke from high blood pressure and is partially paralyzed.
Both Sauri and Kunjamma are in need of strict medication and there is no means of steady income for this poor family. Their second daughter Gracy, who is a spinster, is caring for her aged parents. Kunjamma needs constant care so Gracy has to be at the house always. They spend their days in utter starvation. The only income for the family is the small pension paid by the government to aged people.
Yet another dilemma the family is facing is the pathetic condition of their dwelling. They are staying in a small tiled house, which is fully dilapidated and in need of immediate repairs. In the midst of their daily struggles this poor family cannot even imagine about this. They are losing all hope in life and looking for some kind assistance to get out of the deep pool of misery and starvation. A kind help would really be an oasis in their deserted life.
