Imagine losing your parents as a child, your home as a teenager, and then becoming a mother and a widow in the same year. This is Sujatha’s story.

Sujatha grew up in a tribal region of Andhra Pradesh. Her parents died when she was a child, leaving her and her younger sister as orphans. With no extended family to care for them, they stayed in a small hut and survived on the charity of neighbors. They worked odd jobs, never attended school, and neither learned to read or write. Their meager existence became even more dire when the hut was destroyed in a fire, sending all of their belongings up in smoke.

Despite being impoverished and illiterate, Sujatha continued to seek a better life. Her spirit caught the attention of a kind young man with a bright future. His name was Rambabu. His family disapproved of Sujatha, thinking that their son should find a wife from a better background. But the couple was very dedicated to each other. They convinced the family to allow them to marry. The couple was happy with each other and welcomed a son in early 2020.

Then, just as life was looking bright, tragedy struck Sujatha’s life again. Rambabu died from complications of a medical condition. Sujatha was left alone with a young baby at the very start of the COVID crisis. Since then, she has struggled to find work to support herself and her young son. The support of a sponsor would allow her to participate in the FFA’s Resource Project for Andhra and to purchase some small livestock. Sujatha is eager to become self-sufficient and has the motivation and work ethic to accomplish this. She just needs your support.
