Thresiamma is a poor aged widow with five daughters. Only two were settled when her husband was alive. With great struggle this poor woman settled the younger two daughters in marriage, one among them is too a widow now.
Thresiamma used to go for odd jobs, carrying fish on her head, going from home to home for sale. Years of hard work transformed her to a mere skeleton who now needs others’ support, even for her personal needs.
Her youngest daughter, Gracy, showed symptoms of mental problems from a young age and was not married. She has been under strict medication for many years and now is bedridden with kidney problems. Thresiamma and Gracy are leading a very pathetic life in their small house. The house was built many years back with the help of a parish association and needs major repairs. They do not have the means even for their daily survival and medication, and repair of the house is beyond their reach.
Thresiamma‘s second daughter Philomina who is staying nearby cares for both of them. Her husband, who is deaf with severe mental disabilities, goes for some odd jobs that are insufficient even for their daily needs. Thresiamma’s granddaughter Mary Christina is studying in the 11th grade.
