At 24 years of age, Manikumari is a widow with two small children who has lived a harsh life. (You can read her full story below).
Yet, Manikumari has taken over the added responsibilities of caring for her parents and aiding her brother in his education. If she receives sponsorship from the FFA the venture capital would allow her to sell goods in her village and rear goats. Ippilli Manikumari is a poor deserving widow in her village. She was a victim of child marriage. As soon as she completed her high school studies at the age of 16, her parents arranged a marriage for her where she had no voice. Her young husband, Venkata Ramana, was irresponsible towards his family as he had turned to drugs. Their marriage was blessed with two children who are boys. Eldest son, Gowtham, aged 7 is studying in 3rd grade in the nearby Government school and the youngest, Rishi, aged 4 goes to the nearby Government Kindergarten.
Manikumari’s parents supported her financially in her day to day needs to live a peaceable life but her married life did not last for long. Ramana became a victim of Jaundice which worsened day by day and he had to say adieu to his loved ones, leaving the responsibilities of the family to the tender shoulders of Manikumari. Before the age of 20 she had to accept the reality of her widowhood with two young children.
As a widow, Manikumari’s in-laws treated her poorly but she kept this to herself while she struggled to earn a livelihood. Finally, realizing their daughter’s wretched situation, her parents accepted her back in their family. She and her children now live with her parents and her only brother Vasu. But their situation is tenuous.
Her father, Sanyasi Naidu, who was the breadwinner has become sick and unable to go for any work. Annapoorna, her mother, has no job experience. Her brother, Vasu, took up the responsiblities of the running expenses of the house. However, as he was good in studies, he secured admission to a two years course for an IT Diploma – something that is good for the family in the long run. This makes it impossible for him to continue to have full responsibilities for the expenses of the household while he is studying.
Manikumari desires to take-up the responsibilities of the house, supporting her aged parents and her children and give a helping hand for her brother to complete his studies. She is ready to do any work. Only occasionally are there possibilities of seasonal work and in her remote village other odd jobs are not available. They don’t have their own field so she would like to start some income generation program like sale of Tiffin and rice as well as goat rearing.
If any one stretches their hand to give a helping hand to sponsor this family, Manikumari could enjoy the rare privileges offered by the FFA to reach the goal of self-reliance. This will turn into a blessing for the entire family. She will be ever grateful if any one willingly comes forward to give a helping hand. Any help given to them will be greatly appreciated. May God bless the kind benefactor!
