Chandrakala is a brave mother and wife trying to do the impossible for her family. She works hard, and lives in a one room rental house caring for a sick mother and trying to provide for a young daughter, who despite everything, is excelling in her school work. Her husband and son are unable to live with her in their current conditions. You can read more details of her sad life story below.
With the support of a sponsor, Chandrakala could be part of the FFA’s Resource program and begin improving their living conditions by selling rice and food stuffs in their village. (To learn more about the Andhra Family Sponsorship program, click here.)

Chandrakala lives with her daughter, Likitha Kala, and her mother, Sahala, in a rented house in a remote village. Here is her story:
She and her husband, Manoharraj Kala, had two children, Jeeven and Likitha. Both her husband, Manoharraj, and their son, Jeevan, no longer live with Chandrakala. They live with Manoharraj’s parents who care for them. Their son, Jeevan, was born unable to hear or speak and mentally impaired and is unable to attend school. Manoharraj also is mentally ill and unable to work. Both Manoharraj and Jeevan show up at odd times to visit Chandrakala and sadly, Manoharraj is prone to violence during those visits. Still Chandrakala worries about the two and shares some of her meager earnings to help with their expenses.
Chandrakala has no land or house of her own. The rented house where she, her daughter, and mother live is one room with areas for cooking and a toilet. Her mother is an elderly widow who is too sick to work. Since Chandrakala is an only daughter she is totally responsible for the care of her mother. Chandrakala’s daughter, Likitha, is age nine and lives with her mother and grandmother in the one room rented space. A very bright, intelligent young girl, she is the shining hope and joy of the Chandrakala and her mother. A nearby English school recognized the dire conditions the three live in and Likitha’s potential and has sponsored Likitha to attend the school where she is excelling.
Chandrakala worries constantly about her family. At present, she goes for household work in four houses as a part-time worker. She is the only breadwinner of the family and it is difficult to meet their needs despite her hard work.
If someone would sponsor Chandrakala, she would be able to begin selling rice and other goods through the FFA Sponsorship Program. This would open opportunities to improve their living consditions which Chandrakala dreams of making possible.
