This is one of the neediest families we are currently working with. The Kalathil family is faced with seemingly endless challenges, and a sponsor could make an incredible difference for them.
Sebastian is the father of three children. He is handicapped; he has paralysis affecting one hand and one leg. Because of this he cannot perform many of the jobs available to men in this area. But instead of staying home, he manages to earn a small income as an assistant to some of the fisherman in the area. His wife works in the local coir factory whenever she is able to leave the home. But despite this couple’s dedication, their household struggles.
Their youngest son, who is only 5, is afflicted with an unusual kidney condition. It requires medication, has frequent complications, and will eventually require surgery. Sebastian’s elderly and ill parents also live with the couple. His mother suffers from diabetes and arthritis, while his father is bedridden, partially paralyzed, and requires help to perform even the simplest of tasks.
And so Sebastian and Thresiamma are supporting five people in this humble home, three of whom have major medical issues. In the words of the local FFA staff, “Imagine [their] struggle when healthy people would find it difficult to run [a] family!” This is family that would benefit immensely from the aid a sponsor could provide.
