Kumari is a poor widow who lost her husband, Shivaji, during the pandemic. He was a a good man and as the elder son in his family had taken up the responsibility of his own family when his father died and was caring for his mother, younger brother and two sisters at the time of his death. Kumari and Shivaji lived on the ground floor of a two story house with their own two sons and Shivaji’s mother, brother and two sisters lived on the second floor.
Since Shivaji’s death, Kumari is struggling to support her two young sons. Elder son Darshith is studying in 1st grade and the younger one Pranith is not yet placed in the kindergarten. They are living in the big city of Vizag where it is difficult to do any small business such as petty shops, even small ventures need to be registered. Before his death, Shivaji had been a successful painter but now Kumari has no income herself for feeding and clothing her sons and paying bills for their home.
Kumari’s in-laws attempt to contribute to the extended family’s living expenses but it is challenging. Shivaji’s brother lost his job because of the pandemic and his two sisters who were working part time as domestic servants in neighboring families no longer have regular work. Kumari and her mother-in-law are trying to do tailoring work. With the help of a sponsor’s support, Kumari could not only have funds to assure her sons would have food on the table but also begin to build a small business of dress making through the FFA Andhra Resource Program. This would allow her to work towards her dream of self reliance. She would be forever grateful for this help in this difficult time in her life.
