The Majhi Family

Suseela and her husband have six children and minimal opportunities to earn a living in their ancestral village. They are extremely focused on their children getting a good education so they can do more with their lives.

With the help of a sponsor, Suseela hopes to raise goats and cows. This could provide a source of income to help the family provide for their children. (To learn more about how the sponsorship program in Andhra Pradesh works, click here.)

Andhra Region

This is one of the most deserving families in the village of Badsndhaba, Chandragiri, Gajapati District in the State of Odisha. Suseela Majhi has a big family to be cared and loved for. Her husband Sama is a hard working man and sincerely works to meet both ends of the day.  Wellbeing of the children is their aim and to give a better future they are willing to do anything for its cause. Reality is that they work hard and earn little which may not be sufficient to sustain them. By culture and nature they are satisfied with what they have and no complaints about any wanting and try to make happy with what they have.

God blessed their family life with six children among them four are daughters and two sons. Elder two girls, Aisha and Monisha, and the elder boys, Matthew and Mathiyas, are placed in a hostel for better studies with the understanding that if they get poor marks they will have to go back to  field work. When children are at home for vacation the entire family goes to work in the mountains. The younger daughters, Gorethi and Elizbatha, are at home. Gorethi goes to nearby Government Aganwadi (Kindergarten) where she gets some nutritious support for her better health.

On the mountain they have a little land for cultivation and also they collect edible pulses and firewood for their daily needs. The main cultivation in their area are maize and pulses, which are carried out by the flow of water from the mountain. No other irrigation facilities are available in this rural village.

If anyone extends a helping hand to this family, they could raise goats and cows to earn a better income and help the family to meet the urgent needs and attend to the basic needs of their health.
