Musilamma is a loving mother and grandmother who has seen the worst of the HIV/AIDS crisis in this region. At one time in her life she was the proud mother of seven boys, all of whom grew up and married. Then, tragically, she watched as one-by-one her sons and their families were afflicted with complications of HIV infection. Not a single one of her children survived. Now, at age 68, Musilamma is a widow with no children left to support her. She lives with two of her granddaughters who do their best to make a home and care for her. All three of the women have health problems of their own. Both daughters find work in the local sugar factories when they can, but the jobs are seasonal and the income unreliable. The three women live in an old one-room building which is in need of repair. During the monsoons the roof threatens to collapse and the house is not even safe to live in. With the help of a sponsor these three women could open a simple storefront that would afford them a reliable income, and the dignity that comes with it.
