Apparna is a hard-working and dedicated young woman who at the tender age of 23 is already mother to three young boys. Her husband, Dugarao, is a good man who works as a daily wage earner to support the family. The couple are proud of their sons and have tried to give them every possible opportunity despite the family’s limited means.
They live in a partially-finished two-room structure that is made possible through a government subsidy. Despite their strong work ethic their lives are a constant struggle. As young parents Apparna and her husband learned that they are HIV-positive. This discovery, as you can imagine, was an enormous shock and their thoughts immediately turned to the future for their sons.
Faced with this terrifying diagnosis, the couple made the decision to receive counseling and treatment, with the hope that they can live to see their sons grow up. While they continue to take medications to treat the condition, their struggle is made more difficult by the limited income. It is difficult for the family to afford nutritious food and both parents now take odd jobs whenever possible to make ends meet.
This couple definitely has the motivation and heart to improve their lot in life, but just needs an opportunity to make it happen; this is something that an FFA sponsor could provide.
