Maria is a widow who wants to work but can only do so from home due to her children’s illnesses. Your sponsorship could allow her to do this.
Once Maria has a sponsor, the FFA will provide the funds to set up a fruit and vegetable stand at her home. Your monthly donation will help Maria to provide for her family while she grows her business. (To learn more about how the sponsorship program in Andhra Pradesh works, click here.)

Maria is an HIV-positive widow who is caring for her two mentally disabled children (Kumar, 15, and Ruth, 8) as well as her 10 year-old son Abi. Her life is incredibly difficult. She is the sole breadwinner for the family since her husband’s death, but the condition of her children does not allow her to leave the home.
Kumar, her oldest son, is mentally disabled and has not attended school since 3rd grade. Now 15, he roams the village and is beyond Maria’s control. Her youngest daughter Ruth is also mentally disabled and Maria has to provide her with constant care and supervision. Only her 10-year old son Abi is enrolled in school.
The family lives in a rented home and currently survives only due to the kindness of their neighbors. Maria worries constantly about their future. She is eager to work and has been a wage-earner in the past, but now needs a way to earn income from their home. With the kindness of a sponsor the FFA could aid her in setting up a fruit and vegetable stand at home that would allow her to care for her family while providing for them as well.
