Ouseppachan and Reena are a married couple who are struggling to care for their three young daughters and an ailing mother. Like many men in this area Ouseppachan works as a fisherman. In the words of the local FFA staff, he “struggles from dawn to dusk, but fails to fulfill the rising needs of his family… the whole family resembles mere skeletons due to malnutrition.”
It is heartbreaking that all of Oseppachan’s hard work barely provides enough income to feed his family. To make matters worse, he suffers from chest pains but cannot afford medical care. Adding to this already dire situation, his mother suffers from both physical and mental disabilities.
Ouseppachan’s dear wife, Reena, stays home to care for the mother and to look after their youngest daughter, so the family must survive on one income alone. Together these six souls live in a dilapidated hut built many years ago which threatens to collapse with each passing monsoon. This family deserves a safe home and the security of a reliable income, but the couple is worried most for the future of their beloved children.
