This is the Pallickathayil family. The mother, Laisamma, is a kind and hard-working woman. She is proud of her three beautiful daughters, each of whom is enrolled in school and doing well. Laisamma works doing odd jobs in the area to earn money. Sadly this is often the family’s only source of income because Laisamma’s husband, Abraham, struggles with mental health issues. When he is feeling well he works in a local shop, but increasingly he is not able to work outside the home. He takes medication to treat his condition. As you can imagine, the cost of the medication and food for the entire family is often greater than the money Laisamma earns. The girls rely on the food they receive at school for nourishment while the parents often go hungry, and Abraham is forced to go off his medication. With support from an FFA sponsor he could stay on his medication and hopefully improve enough to earn a regular income and help support his family.
