The Poovalapallis are a family living in very sad circumstances.
Prasad is a single father who lives with his daughter Latha and his mother Pushpavathi. Their lives have been difficult from the start. When Prasad was a young boy he was in a tragic accident. Struck by a truck, he suffered head and neck injuries and his right arm was severed. He never fully recovered from these injuries and has required the help of others to survive.
His parents arranged a marriage for him, but he and his wife suffered through many difficult circumstances and eventually separated. Of their three beloved children, only Prasad’s daughter is still with him. His oldest son left the family for a life as a drug addict, while his young son was tragically killed in a motorcycle crash. Now Prasad relies on his teenage daughter and aging mother to survive. He is able to earn some money doing small jobs, but the family relies mostly on Pushpavathi for income.
With the help of a sponsor the family could purchase some livestock to raise for income. The work would allow them to afford medical care of both Prasad and Pushpavathi as she ages, and would give daughter Latha an opportunity for a better life than she has known.
