Due to a very sad tale, at age 30, Sarojini finds herself in a remote mountain village, with four young children of her own, living with an elder sister with three more children.
The father of her children died two years ago of kidney and heart issues leaving Sarojini and her sister on their own. You can read more of their tale below.
With the support of a sponsor, Sarojini could be part of the FFA’s Resource program and use the tailoring skills she has been developing to open a home based business. (To learn more about the Andhra Family Sponsorship program, click here.)

Our staff met Sarojini in a mountainous region outside of Kotalpadu. After traveling along a dangerous pathway surrounded by steep ravines, they came to the modest structure where she lives. They listened to Sarojini’s story. Her tale is one that is sadly typical of impoverished women in this region.
As an uneducated and unmarried woman, Sarojini was left homeless when her parents died. She came here to live with her sister, who had married a kind and hard-working man. He worked long days as a builder and handyman to provide for the sisters. Over time, Sarojini became like a second wife to him. He built this home for them to share, and both women had children. The sisters worked together, caring for their kids and earning extra income through tailoring jobs. As the children grew, they were able to attend a rural school. Sarojini knew that this education would allow her children to have more choices than she did. It was a modest but happy life.
Sadly, the stability the family worked so hard to achieve did not last. Their beloved husband, who worked tirelessly to provide for them, began to suffer kidney and heart problems. Two years ago, he died. He left behind both women and their seven children. Sarojini is now effectively a widow, with her own two daughters and twin boys to support. Because the boys are young, she cannot leave home to find work. Every day is a struggle, and as time passes the family becomes more and more desperate. She is a capable young woman, but she needs help to get through this difficult time. A sponsor could help Sarojini and her children find stability. Sarojini has developed skills working with garments, and with assistance, she could establish a home-based business to support her family. This is a wonderful opportunity to help a loving family toward a bright future.
