We are happy to welcome Sr. Helen Lawrence as the new director of our offices in Alleppey. We have asked Sr. Helen to introduce herself to you:
WITH GRATITUDE
With heart full of gratitude to FFA USA for having entrusted me the responsibility of secretary FFA in Alleppey since 2016 April 2nd after the leadership of Sr. Daphne Anto, I, Sr. Helen Lawrence Sahithi said ‘Yes’ to the Lord to serve the poorest of the poor. I raise my heart with thanks to the Lord for the gift of His Excellency Bishop Peter M. Chenaparampil who had been guiding Canossian Daughters of Charity in this endeavor and His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Bishop Stephen Athipozhiyil who is an inspiration to carry on this mission. I am the sixth Canossian sister to carry on this responsibility as the secretary of FFA Alleppey.
ABOUT MYSELF
God my Creator placed me in SAHITHI HOUSE (Sahithi is my house name) in the year 1968 August 25th as the youngest daughter among eight children of Mr. Lawrence and Mrs. Josephine, who were the members of the St. Antony’s Forane Church, Valiathura, in the Arch Diocese of Trivandrum. I was brought up as a good Christian in this middle class family by my dearest parents who are in heaven now and elder five brothers and two sisters for whom I am the most beloved. I developed a great devotion of Mary, Mother of Christ, through the daily Rosary prayed together by my family members early in the morning and night. We were regular for Holy Mass in the small chapel of St. Francis of Assisi Capuchin Father’s Friary close to my home. The Faith I live today is the inspiration I received from my family surroundings. I did my schooling in St. Roch’s Convent School situated near Trivandrum Airport and completed my university pre-degree and B.com Degree in All Saints College in Trivandrum, Kerala State. I studied the Teachers Training Course in Trivandrum Government Training College after becoming a religious. The discovery of the suffering poor was perhaps the most decisive event of my adolescence. I felt certain of being called by the Lord to the religious life at the age of 20 after completing my degree at home. God has made me unique and different. And He wants me to be that person he made me and feel proud of that.
A CALL TO BE GOD’S OWN
I was privileged to join the Congregation of Canossian Daughters of Charity Servants of the poor, in the year 1989. I professed my vows of Chastity, Poverty and Obedience to the Lord for the first time in the year 1992 and surrendered for ever through Final Commitment in the year 1998. My mission to serve in God’s vineyard began in Bangalore provincial house, as a helper in the province secretariat and close by village. I had the opportunity to render my services in difference states of the southern province ie, Visakhapatnam (Andhra) Bishop’s House, Anglo Indians School Cochin, Pallithode, Poonthura (Kerala) and Wellington (Tamil Nadu) in socio pastoral activities. Paikaraopetta (Andhra) as community animator and local manager of a school, and last 15 years I am serving in our St. Joseph’s Higher secondary school for girls, Alleppey as a High School teacher. In all these spheres I realized my spiritual orientation included:
Live on the providence of God.
Care for the poorest of the poor.
Pray for the whole world through daily Rosary.
Contemplation and living of the spirit of Jesus Crucified and Mary Mother of Sorrows.
“The leaders of the people are measured by the quality and constancy of their mercy towards those most in need. Mercy springs from the passion of Love for God and His people.” I bow my head before all my well wishers for their blessings and prayers to be a messenger of God’s love and mercy as I continue my mission in FFA Alleppey.
Welcome, Sr. Helen!
